Creating these Red, White, and Blue Berry Frozen Yogurt Bites
When I originally created this recipe in 2016, it was during a very busy time of my life! Anyone who has ever moved knows how stressful, but also incredibly exciting, the task of getting a house ready to list for sale can be.
All for good, happy and exciting reasons. As you can imagine, that it is especially a challenge when you cook and write about food for a living. Suddenly my house, and kitchen, needed to be tidy all of the time. Things were staying pretty simple in the kitchen.
Both to minimize the amount of messes that happen in the first place, and also because our new daily routine involves lots of cleaning up every day. Nobody likes that!
There wasn’t a lot of time (or energy) to make something complicated. Desserts and snacks had become simple or make ahead recipes. So, we enjoyed these Red, White, and Blue Berry Frozen Yogurt Bites a lot during those weeks.

Can I Substitute a Different Fruit in this 4th of July Snack?
Yes! Totally! I definitely recommend keeping the red, white, and blue snack theme if you’re going for a 4th of July snack. You can swap out raspberries for strawberries if you need to.
However, for any other occasion, you can use any combination of fruits that you like. In my opinion, berries work best because you don’t have to do a lot of chopping or other prep work, but anything you like would work.
Here are some suggestions:
- Strawberries
- Raspberries
- Blueberries
- Blackberries
- Cherries
- Chopped Kiwi
- Chopped Peaches
Other Substitutions in these Frozen Berry Yogurt Bites
If you’d like to try a different a different yogurt I recommend sticking to one of the following flavors: Strawberry, Raspberry, Blueberry, plain Greek, or Lemon. I prefer Greek yogurt because it is thicker.
Typically I don’t recommend making a bunch of substitutions when preparing a new recipe. When making substitutes, you won’t know if you don’t like the recipe or if the recipe didn’t turn out due to a preparation mistake, an ill effect from the substitute, or something else.
However, if you do choose to make substitutions in a recipe, I recommend only making one substitute at a time so you don’t have a building effect of multiple poor substitutions.
Can I use Dried Fruit in these Red, White, and Blue Berry Frozen Yogurt Bites?
Yes, dried fruits can be used in place of fresh fruits if you prefer. When using dried fruits, the colors won’t be quite as vibrant, and the fruits won’t be juicy. But, you’ll still have a fun Red, White, and Blue snack!
What Can I Substitute for Yogurt if I Have a Dairy Allergy?
Do you have a dairy allergy or intolerance, but still want to prepare this frozen berry yogurt bite snack? Preparing this recipe using a dairy-free yogurt substitute for the Greek yogurt should work just fine!
To my knowledge, granola doesn’t typically have dairy in it, but be sure to check the label on that to be safe because you’ll want to use a dairy-free granola as well.
Steps to Make Red, White, and Blue Berry Frozen Yogurt Bites
First, you’ll line mini muffin trays with cupcake liners. The cupcake liners help make it much easier to remove the frozen berry yogurt bites from the muffin tin.
Next, combine the Vanilla Greek Yogurt and the lemon juice in a bowl. Stir well until mixed.
After, you’ll add plain granola, sliced almonds, then a scoop of the lemon juice and Greek yogurt mixture to the prepared liners.
Then, To top the yogurt bites off, you add fresh Raspberries and Blueberries.
Last, all you do is freeze the berry yogurt bites until you’re ready to eat. And, make sure to serve them frozen for best results.
The above is simply a quick summary of this recipe. Check out the full recipe in the free printable recipe card at the bottom of this post for all the detailed instructions.

This frozen red, white, and blue snack will totally fit the bill for something easy and sweet on a hot day. I love that they’re bite size and don’t require dishes to eat, so they’re perfect to make a head and keep on hand.
Because they’re so easy to prepare, I definitely recommend making a few dozen of these berry yogurt bites at a time, whether you need to 4th of July party prep ahead of time, or you just want to stash them in your freezer.
Once they’re frozen, transfer them out of the muffin tin and store the berry yogurt bites in a sealed plastic container in the freezer or a large zip top bag so they stay fresh.

Tips for Making this 4th of July Snack
- Try plain Greek yogurt for less sugar if you prefer.
- If you’re not worried about the red, white, and blue theme for this easy snack, then feel free to try berry yogurts (or other flavors) for a variety of tastes.
- If you want the yogurt to taste more lemony, try adding lemon zest using a microplane.
- Leave out the nuts if you have an allergy or don’t like them.
- If you have a gluten allergy, check the granola to make sure it is gluten-free.
- Use fun silicone molds for different shapes. Star shaped would be cute for a patriotic theme.
