Raspberry Smoothie and Cinnamon Sugar Biscuits
This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations Courtney Sweets!
We made these Raspberry Orange Smoothies (we called them Sweetheart Smoothies for their festive color) and these tender, flaky Cinnamon Sugar Buttermilk Biscuits for a little pre-Valentine’s day treat when the kids were home from school. Such a fun treat!
I know it’s winter and it’s very cold outside, but I still love smoothies for a sweet treat or in addition to my breakfast. They are one of my favorite ways to get extra fruit in my diet this time of year when a lot of my most loved fruits aren’t in season. Enjoying flavors like this in the winter really brightens my day and for smoothies, frozen fruits work great so no need to worry about what’s in season.
Early last fall I asked all of you in a survey what kitchen appliance you were most interested in hearing a review about and the #1 answer was: BLENDER! So because it’s the month of LOVE, I thought I’d show my love for you by giving you the chance to win this super cool blender from Cuisinart.

Cinnamon Sugar Biscuits and Raspberry Orange Smoothie
We made these Raspberry Orange Smoothies (we called them Sweetheart Smoothies for their festive color) and these tender, flaky Cinnamon Sugar Buttermilk Biscuits for a little pre-Valentine’s day treat when the kids were home from school. Such a fun treat!
Ingredients
For the Biscuits:
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat pastry flour)
- 3/4 cup cake flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 8 tablespoons salted butter, very cold - even frozen works
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- Cinnamon-Sugar for dipping
For the Smoothie:
- 2/3 cup orange juice
- 3/4 cup plain or vanilla Greek Yogurt
- 10 oz frozen raspberries
- 1 tablespoon milled flax
- 1 teaspoon honey
Instructions
For the Biscuits:
- Preheat the oven to 450° F. In a medium-sized bowl, measure out the flours, baking soda, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Whisk well.
- Using the largest hole on a box cheese grater, grate the cold butter into the bowl. Stir the butter into the flour mixture, taking care to evenly distribute so as not to have any overly large clumps stuck together. Stir in the buttermilk until the mixture comes together and is moist.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead a few times until you can form a ball. Flatten the dough into a circle about 1/2 inch in thickness. Using a biscuit cutter, cookie cutter or a drinking glass (about 3" in diameter for the listed baking time) turned upside down, cut as many rounds as you can.
- If desired, dip the tops in a cinnamon sugar mixture. Using the dough scraps, form another circle of the same thickness. Repeat cutting until you have used all the dough.
- Place the biscuits on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and bake at 450° F for 10-12 minutes. The biscuit tops should be lightly browned. Serve immediately.
For the Smoothie:
- Put all the ingredients, in the order listed, into the jar of your blender. Cover and run on the Smoothie function (if applicable, otherwise puree on high for about a minute). Once the program is complete, turn the power off and serve.

I love the sleek design of the PowerEdge™ 1000 Watt Blender and if I had space to spare, I’d definitely consider it worthy of the privileged to remain counter top at all times.
Not only is this blender attractive, but it is so much more powerful than your average counter-top blender and does a great job and blending and pureeing everything up, unlike some of the previous models I’ve owned. Who likes mystery chunks of fruit and ice in their smoothie?
Another cool aspect of this is that the jar has drainage holes in the bottom so that when you put this upside down in the dishwasher water doesn’t collect in the underside while it is getting cleaned. I can’t count the number of times that I’ve put something in the dishwasher and have had dirty water collect in crevices.
While I certainly wouldn’t consider this a “cheap” in price blender, the PowerEdge™ 1000 Watt Blender is much more moderately priced than some of the other heavy-duty blenders on the market. Consider it an investment well made. With the number of times I’ve replaced sub-par blenders in the past, I could have easily purchased one quality blender like this.
The negative for me on this blender was that it wasn’t quite powerful enough to completely puree fruit seeds, like from raspberries, and while not an issue for me personally, Logan dislikes this. My solution? I just don’t make smoothies with raspberries for him but opt for blueberries or strawberries since their seeds are much smaller.

I love that it has pre-programmed features for the things you will use it most for: smoothies, crushing ice and pulsing stuff. That is cool. Our blender has been sitting in the cabinet BROKEN for years. It would be awesome to get a new one. My hubby is participating in Team In Training so he can run a half marathon on May 1 and raise money for LLS. A smoothie would be the perfect snack after he works out. (I hope I win!)

I stumbled this post because honestly my kids are all into smoothies right now. I have got a recipe that has spinach in it but I haven’t made it yet. I want to sneak healthy into them without them knowing.
