Passion Fruit Smoothie
This simple Passion Fruit Smoothie uses just four ingredients and is perfect for breakfast or snacking. It’s slightly tart, and the tropical flavors taste extra refreshing on hot days!
When it comes to making a good-for-you breakfast on busy mornings, nothing beats a classic smoothie! They’re easy to make, can be assembled in less than 5 minutes, and can be sipped on the go if you’ve got an important meeting to get to or your kids need to be dropped off at school.
This smoothie is made with passion fruit, strawberries, and orange juice — that’s it! (Don’t worry, I’ve provided suggestions in the blog post below on optional add-ins that will make the smoothie more filling.)
I used frozen fruit in this smoothie instead of fresh. Frozen fruit makes for thicker, creamier smoothies and is often more affordable than fresh.
This frozen passion fruit smoothie is easy to customize, and the passion fruit pairs nicely with just about any berry or tropical fruit. It’s a slightly sweet, slightly tart smoothie that I’ve been making over and over again recently!
Required Kitchen Tools
Like any good smoothie recipe, this strawberry passion fruit version requires minimal equipment to prepare:
- High-Powered Blender – My favorite blender is the Blendtec Blender. We’ve had ours for over 10 years and it makes the creamiest smoothies in no time at all!
- Measuring Cups – To measure the frozen fruit and orange juice.
- Insulated Tumblers — If you often find yourself sipping a warm smoothie on your way to work, I suggest investing in an insulated tumbler. They keep smoothies cold for hours!

Recipe Variations to Try
This simple recipe can be customized using pretty much any combination of frozen fruit and liquid you want.
My go-to variation of this classic passion fruit smoothie is a mango passion fruit smoothie. To make a mango version of this smoothie, I’ll add the following:
- 1 cup frozen mango
- 1 cup frozen passion fruit
- 1 cup mango passion fruit juice
- 2 scoops collagen powder
But the sky’s the limit! Replace the strawberries with another berry or frozen fruit, and swap the orange juice for coconut water or another fruit juice.
Tips for Making Smoothies
- Make-ahead smoothie packs. If you’re in a serious time crunch each morning, I suggest measuring out the frozen passion fruit and strawberries ahead of time and sealing them in individual freezer bags for future use. When you’re ready to blend up the smoothie, just add the OJ and collagen powder.
- Only have fresh strawberries? You can easily freeze strawberries yourself! Freezing strawberries is a great way to take advantage of sale prices or extend the shelf life of fresh berries that you picked yourself.
- Freshly squeezed orange juice is best, but if that’s not an option for you then I suggest buying a good-quality carton from the grocery store. Avoid any juices “from concentrate” for the freshest flavor.
- Add Greek yogurt for creaminess. If you prefer thicker, creamier smoothies, you can add up to ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt to this recipe.
Smoothie FAQs
Got questions about how to make this recipe? Here are the answers to a few commonly asked questions. Feel free to leave any other questions in the comments on this post and I’ll respond with answers.
How do I make the smoothie thicker or thinner?
If you prefer a thicker smoothie, add some crushed ice or use less orange juice than the recipe calls for. For a thinner smoothie, use more juice or add water as needed.
What should I do with any leftovers?
This recipe makes one passion fruit berry smoothie, but if it’s too much for you to finish in one sitting then you can simply freeze the leftovers. Use a freezer-safe jar or zip-top bag for this.
When you’re ready to eat the frozen smoothie leftovers, thaw for 10 to 15 minutes on your counter before drinking.
Can I make this recipe using fresh fruit?
Yes, but you’ll end up with a warm, runny smoothie. If you only have fresh fruit on hand, I suggest adding a handful or two of ice to make the smoothie super cold and thick.
How can I make smoothies more filling?
There are a few different ways you can make this passion fruit smoothie recipe more filling:
- Add protein powder (unflavored or vanilla protein powder would work best)
- Add plain yogurt (Greek or regular)
- Add half an avocado (it will also make the smoothie creamy)
- Add oats (¼ cup or so should do it)
- Add nuts or seeds (raw cashews, hemp seeds, chia seeds, etc.)
