I am passionate about cooking delicious and beautiful, yet accessible, food for my family and friends. I love trying new foods, discovering new places & things that help my family live that good life.
How It All Started
In 2008, I started Good Life Eats as a way to document my kitchen experiments and save my favorite recipes, mostly for myself and for family members who would often call, mid-dinner rush, asking, “Can you send me that recipe?” At the time, I was a busy mom juggling dinnertime with my 3 ½-year-old son, Logan, and my one-year-old daughter, Madeline.
Becoming a mom gave me a whole new perspective in the kitchen. I didn’t always have time for elaborate meals, but I quickly learned that cooking flavorful, nourishing food didn’t have to be complicated. I found ways to create delicious meals even when it felt like I needed to be in four places at once. Or when I thought there was “nothing in the house to eat.”
I never attended culinary school, but I’ve been in the kitchen my entire life. From “baking” cakes on the kitchen floor at age three to regularly making family dinners as a teenager, cooking has always been my creative outlet.
A Lifetime of Hands-On Cooking Experience
My love for cooking truly deepened in high school when I spent two summers living with my aunt and uncle while working in their pharmacology lab at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Since they were busy with research, I had full reign of the kitchen.
During those summers, I cooked dinner for us nearly every night. It was the first time I experimented with new ingredients, cooked completely independently, and truly explored flavors beyond my usual go-to meals. I discovered real Indian food, feta and fresh mozzarella, and made my first batch of homemade pesto.
When I returned home, I couldn’t wait to keep cooking, and my mom was more than happy to hand over some of the dinner responsibilities! Looking back, those summers were when I truly fell in love with meal planning and cooking with intention.
How It’s Going
What started as a small personal recipe collection has grown into Good Life Eats, a space where I share flavorful, reliable recipes and practical kitchen strategies to help busy home cooks simplify mealtime and build confidence in the kitchen.
I believe cooking should be approachable, rewarding, and adaptable to real life. Whether you’re looking for quick weeknight dinners, seasonal recipes, or creative twists on classic dishes, my goal is to help you feel excited and capable in the kitchen.

Meet the Team
Katie Kick
Hi! I’m Katie Kick, the founder, author, and photographer behind Good Life Eats, a trusted food and lifestyle blog where flavorful, approachable recipes meet real-life cooking. I am passionate about creating delicious and beautiful, yet accessible food that brings people together—because good food should be both doable and deeply enjoyable.
From family-friendly meals to kitchen tips and meal-planning inspiration, my goal is to help home cooks feel confident, creative, and excited to cook. I love trying new foods, discovering new places, and finding little things that help my family live that good life.
When I’m not in the kitchen (or behind the camera), you’ll find me staying active, spending time with my husband and our young adult kids, gardening, traveling, playing with our dogs, running, cycling (I’m @goodlifeeats on Peloton!), or getting lost in a great book.
Rachael White
Rachael White lives in Minnesota with her husband, two sons, and three rescue dogs. She took her first (blurry and horribly lit) food photo when she was living in Tokyo, Japan in 2008 and has spent the last 15 years developing her eye for food photography and styling.
She has photographed recipes for brands like Tillamook, Rao’s, and Kodiak Cakes before landing here at Good Life Eats in 2022. Rachael’s passion for making all food look beautiful (because we all eat with our eyes first) has been the perfect pairing for Katie’s recipe writing talent. You can see more of her work on her website, Set the Table!
About Our Family
I love cooking for our crazy, busy, ever-evolving family! Over the years, there have been times when trying new recipes, or even sitting down for family dinners together, had to take a back seat to school programs, sports practices, teenage jobs, band concerts, college visits, and helping our young adult kids move into their first apartments. But no matter how hectic life gets, we always find time to come together over a good meal—and sometimes even do a little kitchen experimenting!
In 2016, I married my wonderful husband, Kevin. If you’d like to know more about how our story began, you can read The One About Dating Me for Real. Along with my own kids, I have 2 amazing step kids that I’ve added to my life – Kendall and Kayden.
