How to Grease and Flour a Pan

But here’s my big secret: I don’t actually “flour” my cake pans … I “sugar” them! Keep reading to learn my exact method for greasing and flouring your cake pans.

ADD & SWIRL

1. To your pan, add ½ to 1 tablespoon of melted shortening. Swirl it around the coat the bottom and sides (you can also use a clean paper towel or pastry brush to coat the sides).

ADD SUGAR

2. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar to the pan.

TAP & SHAKE

3. Tap and shake the pan until the sugar coats the bottom and sides.
